Phoenix radio station – Mix 96.9 – has been asking women across the Valley of the Sun to hand over their new or gently used bras for weeks now. The reason…..
So they could construct a huge wall of bras. Bras for a Cause. Sounds weird right?
But what better way to catch peoples attention as they are driving on the loop 202 and the 101 near the Tempe Marketplace by placing a wall with more than 3,000 bras flapping in the wind! The radio station conducted a live “bra-cast” from the location starting at 5:00 am this morning and ended at 6:00 pm this evening. Breast Cancer survivors and Breast Cancer Battlers were interviewed throughout the day. Words of hope, encouragement and inspiration were shared. And of course women were reminded to schedule their mammograms.
After the wall is taken down the bras will be cleaned and donated to a woman’s crisis center. It’s like a gift that keeps on giving!
I thought this was a unique awareness campaign, I have participated in Relay for Life in past years and I know about the Susan Komen Race for the Cure but had never heard of Bras for a Cause. And what better timing for this campaign since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am a Breast Cancer Survivor myself, I am now 8 years cancer free! My cancer was detected by a mammogram in the very early stages. So I am a firm believer in mammograms. Please ladies, if you need to have a mammogram….just do it!
